Q – When will the Bowling Green Fire Department begin taking applications for Entry-Level Firefighters?

A – The Bowling Green Fire Department usually opens the application process once a year.  Check the Employment section of this web site on a periodic basis if you are interested in applying.

Q – When will the written test be scheduled?

A – The City of Bowling Green’s Human Resource Office schedules the written tests.  You may contact them by calling (270) 393-3689.

Q – Do I have to go through recruit training if I am already employed elsewhere as a Firefighter?

A – Yes. We do not support a lateral transfer hiring program. All candidates are required to apply via the department’s entry-level testing process and attend our Recruit Training Program once offered employment. (Recruit and Training Program URL Coming Soon!)  

Q – Will a criminal record prevent me from applying for a job as a Bowling Green Firefighter? 

A – A criminal record does not disqualify you from applying for a position with the Bowling Green Fire Department.  Keep in mind, however, that the hiring process is very competitive and any negative background information will affect your chances of being offered a position.

Q – How do I submit a complaint regarding:  

* fire code or fire permit violations
* trash build up at an apartment building or a business
* locked or blocked exit doors
* overcrowding in a business

A – Contact the Fire Marshal at 270-393-3702 during business hours or the Bowling Green Police/Fire Dispatch Center at 270-393-4000 after business hours.

Q – Are fireworks legal in Bowling Green?

A – The sale, possession, use and discharge of fireworks and pyrotechnics are regulated by a Fireworks Ordinance of the City of Bowling Green and Kentucky State Law.  For more information, click this link:  http://www.bgky.org/fire/fireworks.php

Q – Who do I notify about a fire hydrant covered with weeds or brush?

A – Based on the location of the fire hydrant, please contact either Bowling Green Municipal Utilities at 270-782-1200 or Warren County Water at 270-842-0052 as they own and manage the fire hydrants in the City of Bowling Green.

Q – Can I receive a fire safety class & get a tour of a fire station?

A – Scheduled fire safety classes and tours of fire stations are available by appointment.  Please review the Station Tours information page. (Station Tour URL Coming Soon!)

Q – Can I rent the community room in the fire stations for a private event?

A – Yes, community rooms can be reserved free of charge by filling out this form.

Q – Am I allowed to burn brush on my property?

A – A permit is required for burning brush and natural vegetation within the city limits.  For further information, please call the Bowling Green Fire Department Administration building at 270-393-3702.

Q – How do I find help installing a baby seat in my car?

A – Contact the Warren County Health Department at 270-781-2490.

Q – I own a vacant structure that needs to be demolished.  Can the Fire Department use it for training? 

A – Possibly.  The Bowling Green Fire Department sometimes uses vacant structures to conduct training.  From a single-family residence to large commercial structures, these buildings provide excellent training opportunities for firefighters.  For more information contact the Bowling Green Fire Department Training Division at 270-393-3088.
